The Secondary Ruse: Feigning Empathy to Secure Dismissal in the Masnavi
In Book 3, Section 64 of Jalaluddin Rumi's Masnavi, the schoolboys execute the final phase of their deceptive plot. Having already planted the delusion of illness in their master's mind, the ringleader instructs the boys to recite their lessons loudly. He then hypocritically points out that their noise is exacerbating the master's headache. By feigning empathy and concern for his well-being, the students manipulate the ailing master into voluntarily dismissing them, demonstrating how a fabricated crisis can be exploited through the guise of compassion to achieve a selfish goal.
