Traumatic Events as Stressors
A specific category of stressors involves traumatic events, which are situations where an individual is exposed to actual or threatened death or serious injury. Examples of such events include military combat, physical and sexual assaults, robbery, childhood abuse, terrorist attacks, natural disasters like earthquakes or hurricanes, and automobile accidents. Exposure to these extremely intense stressors can lead to the development of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
