Uneven Distribution of Environmental Quality as a Source of Social Conflict

Conflicts over environmental issues often arise because the quality of the environment is not experienced uniformly by everyone. The degradation of an environment through pollution or greenhouse gas emissions creates a conflict of interest because the negative impacts are borne by some, while the economic benefits from the activities causing the damage are enjoyed by others.
