Reading passages from the ACT (American College Testing) exam have been used in several studies as standardized experimental materials. Because ACT passages are written to a calibrated difficulty level, they are expected to be answerable by the large majority of college students, which makes them a consistent, reproducible baseline for comparing reading-comprehension and learning outcomes across experiments.
