Air Pollution: Eastern China (Post-COVID-19)

Researchers studying Eastern China found air quality may have both improved and worsened in certain respects during COVID-19 lock downs.

  • While there was a major decrease in NO2, one study determined O3 and PM2.5 levels increased unexpectedly. Their results showed decreasing NO2 levels were directly responsible for increased O3, which in turn directly contributed to formation of secondary PM pollutants.
