Assumption of Participation at Reservation Utility

In many economic models, it is a standard simplifying assumption that an individual will accept an offer or choose to participate in an interaction even if the benefit is exactly equal to their reservation utility, meaning they receive zero economic rent. In practice, a person might require a marginal amount more to be persuaded, but this assumption avoids the complexity of modeling infinitesimally small incentives.
