Cash Flow Versus Profit Distinction for Contractors

Profit is the surplus remaining after all job costs are subtracted from all revenue once a project is complete. Cash flow is whether the contractor has enough money in the bank to cover bills, payroll, and supplier invoices on the exact dates those payments are due. A job can be profitable on paper yet still trigger a cash crisis if incoming payments lag behind outgoing costs.
