Classical Conditioning in Chemotherapy

A real-world example of classical conditioning can be seen in cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. The chemotherapy drugs serve as the unconditioned stimulus (UCS) that naturally causes vomiting, the unconditioned response (UCR). After repeated pairings, the doctor's office becomes a conditioned stimulus (CS), which elicits nausea, the conditioned response (CR), even before the drugs are administered.
