Classical Conditioning of Nausea in Cancer Patients

Classical conditioning frequently occurs in real-world medical situations, such as cancer chemotherapy. Chemotherapy drugs act as an unconditioned stimulus that naturally produces vomiting, the unconditioned response. Through repeated pairings, the doctor's office becomes a conditioned stimulus. Consequently, visiting the office alone can trigger a conditioned response of nausea.
