Based on the Living Planet Report 2020 from the World Wildlife Fund, the period between 1970 and 2016 saw a substantial decline in global biodiversity, with an average reduction of 68% in the population sizes of vertebrate species, including mammals, birds, amphibians, reptiles, and fish.
