Design of a Worldwide Public Good Game Experiment

A global experiment was designed to study cooperation using a ten-round public good game. In this game, anonymous participants were randomly assigned to small groups, usually of four. For each round, every player was given a $20 endowment and could choose how much to contribute to a common pool. This pool functioned as a public good, where every dollar contributed yielded a $0.40 benefit for all group members, including the one who contributed. A key feature of the design was that after each round, players were informed about the contributions made by the other members of their group.
