Dual Recovery Therapy (DRT) for Comorbid Psychotic Disorder and Substance Use Disorder
Dual recovery therapy combines substance abuse relapse prevention, psychiatric social skills training, motivational enhancement therapy, and the “recovery language” from 12-step programs to target low motivation and aid group and individual treatment sessions. DRT typically starts with twice weekly individual sessions, and then switches to one weekly individual session and one weekly group session. DRT often involves role playing techniques to enhance communication and problem solving skills. Further into the recovery process, the focus of DRT veers towards developing healthy relationships and decreasing dysfunctional relationships.
