Equivalent Decimals

Two decimals are equivalent when they represent the same value — that is, when they convert to equivalent fractions. For example, 0.50.5 and 0.500.50 are equivalent decimals because 510\frac{5}{10} and 50100\frac{50}{100} are equivalent fractions (both simplify to 12\frac{1}{2}). Appending or removing trailing zeros after the last nonzero digit to the right of the decimal point does not change the decimal's value, since it merely multiplies both the numerator and denominator by the same power of ten.
