Followers' Need for Leadership
An employee's need for leadership is a critical factor in the leader-follower dynamic. Individuals with high autonomy prefer less structure and may have a weaker relationship with leaders who impose rigid processes. In contrast, followers who have a strong need for leadership benefit from a well-structured environment with clear responsibilities and little ambiguity. For these employees, a leader who provides a clear path forward without much deviation promotes a strong and positive relationship, as they are most comfortable working within established guidelines.
