Hilltop as an Example of a Tipping Point

In the physical analogy of a ball on a hill, the very top of the hill represents a tipping point. This location is an unstable equilibrium where even the smallest nudge can push the system past a critical threshold. This small perturbation triggers a large and irreversible shift, causing the ball to roll down into a new, stable equilibrium in one of the adjacent valleys.
