How Inventory Counts Support Job Costing

When a physical count does not match the inventory record, the contractor must determine why the difference exists. Common causes include materials used on a job but never recorded, waste, theft, or simple data-entry mistakes. That review is important because inventory totals feed job-cost reports; if the quantities are wrong, the reported project profit will also be wrong. Accurate counts therefore make estimated-versus-actual analysis dependable.
