Impact of COVID-19 on Drug Pharmacokinetics
COVID-19 infection can alter a patient's physiological functions in ways that affect how the body processes drugs. In particular, the cytokine storm and associated liver injury seen in COVID-19 patients can suppress cytochrome P450 (CYP) enzymes, which are responsible for metabolizing many medications. As a result, drug dosages or medication choices may need to be adjusted to avoid harming the patient.
