Mindfulness and Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy: Learning to Understand Thoughts and Feelings as Temporary
MBIs achieve understanding of thoughts/feelings as temporary through observations of such thoughts and feelings, while CBT attempts to do so by addressing and changing metacognitions about the internal phenomena. Though they differ in practice, they share the directive for patients to view their internal phenomena as temporary and without worth or meaning. By combining these processes, MBCT teaches people to have an awareness of their thoughts and feelings and then dismantle the idea that these thoughts are dangerous.
