Overlap Between Basic and Applied Research

While the distinction between basic and applied research is conceptually convenient, the boundary between them is often fluid and not entirely clear-cut. For instance, foundational basic research can eventually influence applied practices, while applied research aimed at solving concrete problems can unexpectedly produce new insights into basic cognitive or physiological processes.
