Repeating Decimal

A repeating decimal is a decimal number in which a single digit or a group of digits after the decimal point cycles endlessly without stopping. For example, 0.3330.333\ldots repeats the digit 33 forever, and 0.1428571428570.142857142857\ldots repeats the six-digit block 142857142857 indefinitely. A bar (overline) is often placed above the repeating portion as a shorthand: 0.30.\overline{3} and 0.1428570.\overline{142857}. Every repeating decimal represents a rational number because it can always be converted into a fraction of two integers.
