Returning Leftover Job Materials to Inventory

When a project ends with unused material, that stock should be moved back into the contractor’s inventory instead of being passed informally to another job. If leftovers are shifted without documentation, the first job looks like it used more material than it truly did, while the second job appears to have received material at no cost. Returning surplus items through inventory preserves accurate job-cost records, keeps estimating data trustworthy, and makes the materials available for future work or supplier credit.
