A mouse that falls from the plain into a shop
Is better than your having kinship with a bailiff.
When a bailiff sits upon a pack-saddle
To him, you are just like a dead donkey.
He calls himself a god
He calls his uncle and aunt beggars.
Out of ignorance and insolence, he makes
His old father sit as a doorkeeper.
Because when a base person gains wealth and position
He changes his spouse, friend, and house.
His pride is like an impending calamity
His return is like a striking bowl.
If you have nothing, he calls you to serve
And if you have, he takes it by force.
He passes wind from the master's behind
Occasionally he does so from the emir's behind too.
Saying, 'In honor and power, you will not see
A boaster like me in this state.
For I am not from the hand of this or that
I am now the right hand of the Sultan.'
