Demographic Differences Based on Child Disability Status

Demographic and socioeconomic factors of parents (including age, gender, employment status, household income, number of people in the household, country of birth, education level, area of residence, and language spoken at home) were used as covariates in studies of caregiver mental health. Among the 4,935 children and primary carers analyzed, significant demographic differences emerged. Compared to parents of children with disabilities, parents of children without disabilities had notably higher education levels (70.97% vs. 61.22% completing year 12 or equivalent), employment rates (69.87% vs. 56.41%), and weekly household incomes ($1879.72 vs. $1716.48).
