Treatment of Illness Anxiety Disorder

Illness Anxiety Disorder (IAD) and Somatic Symptom Disorder (SSD) can be lifelong conditions, but they are manageable through a combination of treatments. Recommended approaches include lifestyle modifications, psychotherapy such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and psychopharmacological interventions. Because no single treatment is universally effective, physicians play a critical role in validating patients' distress while guiding them to recognize when fears are disproportionate. The choice of treatment heavily depends on the patient's receptivity and willingness to accept the psychological nature of the disorder.
