Treatment: Support Groups
There has not been a great deal of research on whether or not support groups can produce the desired result of a reduction in prolonged grief disorder symptoms, however, some research shows that support groups can be useful for specific symptoms and risk factors. Lack of social support after a loss is a risk factor for prolonged grief disorder, so support groups can provide a means of social support to prevent falling into a spiral of loneliness after the loss. More research must be done on the effect of support groups in order for a solid conclusion to be drawn.
