Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome Related to Obesity in COVID-19 Patients
A retrospective study was conducted in a New York City hospital with 504 patients with confirmed COVID-19 infection. Patients were grouped based on their BMI: 150 patients were considered overweight (BMI of 25-29.9) and 215 of them were considered obese (BMI greater than or equal to 30). The results of the study did not reveal an association between obesity and acute respiratory distress syndrome in COVID-19 patients (p=0.16).
