Barriers to Love and Self-Image
For women with disabilities, social expectations about beauty and femininity can make it hard to find romantic partners. Many face judgment and feel devalued because society calls their bodies 'deviant.' This feeling is made worse by the pressure to meet strict standards for physical appearance. Despite this, women with disabilities work hard to maintain their self-esteem despite public criticism. They often express themselves through small acts like fashion and grooming. Their stories show that they want to be recognized beyond their disabilities and challenge views that see them as unable to experience desire.
