The biggest impacts included:

  • Changes to finances (in particular, personal job loss).
  • Changes to education plan (in particular, virtual learning).
  • Changes to living situation (in particular, moving back home).
  • Impact on career goals (in particular, a poor job market).
  • Impact on academic performance (in particular, adapting to virtual learning).

  • ⅓ of the students reported that they had experienced personal job loss, and nearly ¼ reported that at least one parent lost their job.
  • Students also expressed concerns about the abrupt shift to online classes, having to alter their class schedule, and having their study-abroad programs or internships cut short.
  • Students also expressed concerns about the disruptive impact that the COVID-19 pandemic had on their career plans, with nearly half citing concerns about a poor job market, the quality of job opportunities, tight competition for the job market, and limited opportunities to network.
