The biggest impacts included:
- Changes to finances (in particular, personal job loss).
- Changes to education plan (in particular, virtual learning).
- Changes to living situation (in particular, moving back home).
- Impact on career goals (in particular, a poor job market).
- Impact on academic performance (in particular, adapting to virtual learning).
The COVID-19 pandemic had the greatest impact on the participants’ financial and educational status.
- ⅓ of the students reported that they had experienced personal job loss, and nearly ¼ reported that at least one parent lost their job.
- Students also expressed concerns about the abrupt shift to online classes, having to alter their class schedule, and having their study-abroad programs or internships cut short.
- Students also expressed concerns about the disruptive impact that the COVID-19 pandemic had on their career plans, with nearly half citing concerns about a poor job market, the quality of job opportunities, tight competition for the job market, and limited opportunities to network.
