COVID-19 on Students of Color: Introduction
The COVID-19 pandemic disproportionately affects communities of color, more specifically black, Hispanic/Latinex, and indigenous peoples, and is another manifestation of racial injustice against marginalized communities:
- E.g. Black people disproportionately face numerous health disparities, including heart disease, cancer, diabetes, etc., which increase their susceptibility to COVID-19.
College students of color are at a particularly challenging intersection of the pandemic as members of marginalized communities who were required to adapt to rapid changes, including changes in academics, occupation, housing, and social situations.
- The changes that students of color experience may create additional stressors related to academic progress, internship opportunities, and their ability to enter the workforce.
- The current study aims to examine the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the educational experiences and mental well-being of black, Hispanic/Latinex, and multiracial college students in the US.
