COVID-19 on Students of Color: Results: Impact of COVID-19 on students' mental well-being
Several students reported that they had mental health challenges since the onset of COVID-19, and cited that changes in their finances, educational plans, living situation, career goals, and academic performance were the most stressful.
In terms of specific mental health struggles:
- 41% report increased feelings of stress.
- 33% report increased feelings of anxiety.
- 18% report increased feelings of depression.
- 5% report feeling lonely/isolated.
- 3% report feeling worried about their family's health.
To cope, many students turned to:
- Engaging in physical activities (22.7%)
- Talking to friends (20.5%)
- Practicing hobbies (20%)
- Engaging in self-care (14.6%)
- Practicing spirituality and mindfulness (9.7%)
- Working/planning (6.8%).
