Example of Foot-in-the-Door Technique: Political Yard Signs
The display of numerous political signs in a yard, as shown in Photograph B, can be an outcome of the foot-in-the-door technique. A campaign volunteer might first persuade a homeowner to accept a small, unobtrusive sign. Following this initial agreement, the principle of consistency makes the homeowner more receptive to a larger request, such as displaying a much larger sign or multiple signs, thus demonstrating escalating commitment to the candidate or cause.
