Occupational Segregation as a Driver of the Gender Wage Gap

Occupational segregation, the tendency for men and women to work in different occupations, is a significant contributor to the gender wage gap. Occupations predominantly held by women often have lower pay scales than those predominantly held by men, even when the skill and education requirements are comparable. This concentration of women in lower-paying sectors contributes to the overall earnings disparity between genders.
