The Role of Social and Family Support
Support systems, both formal and informal, are crucial for victims trying to escape abuse. However, this study shows that these networks often do not meet their needs because of cultural biases and lack of resources. Women with disabilities face unique challenges; they often struggle to find supportive allies and deal with stigma from family and suspicion from service providers. To make these support structures more effective, we need to raise awareness and provide sensitivity training. It's important to encourage victims to seek help without fearing judgment or dismissal and to build more inclusive community networks.
