Vagueness of SRRS Items

A key criticism of the Social Readjustment Rating Scale (SRRS) is the ambiguity of its items. For instance, an event like 'death of a close friend' lacks specificity, as the level of social readjustment required can vary dramatically depending on the closeness of the relationship, such as the difference between a long-unseen childhood friend and a daily companion (Dohrenwend, 2006).
