Developmental Trajectories of Borderline Personality Disorder in Childhood and Adolescence: Impact of Co-morbid Major Depressive Disorder (MDD)
Some of the characteristics that were correlated with borderline personality disorder symptoms in adolescents were also correlated with major depressive disorder. For instance, poor coping mechanisms with sadness and anger were correlated with depressive symptoms in addition to borderline personality disorder symptoms. For instance, maladaptive coping mechanisms used to handle sadness and anger were associated with symptoms of MDD and borderline personality disorder. However, it is likely that the individuals demonstrated symptoms of both disorders simultaneously. In this case, the characteristics were likely a result of the BPD symptoms rather than the MDD ones.
