Potential Factors of the Development of Emotional Dysregulation and BPD

Many theories regarding the development of borderline personality disorder believe that the development of the disorder is a result of the interaction of several different factors, many of which occur during childhood. Theories based on the biosocial model state that if an individual who possesses certain biological characteristics such as impulsivity experiences negative environmental factors such as Adverse Childhood Experiences or a non-nurturing family environment, they can develop dysregulated emotional responses that become increasingly dysregulated as time goes on. This in turn may lead to the eventual development of borderline personality disorder.
