Difference Between Exponential and Polynomial Functions

A fundamental distinction between an exponential function and a polynomial function (such as a linear or quadratic function) is the structural position of the variable. In polynomial functions, the variable serves as the base and is raised to a constant exponent (for example, x2x^2). In contrast, in an exponential function, the base is a constant and the variable itself acts as the exponent (for example, 6x6^x).
