Multiplication by Zero

The multiplication by zero property states that the product of any real number and 00 is always 00. For any real number aa:

a0=0and0a=0a \cdot 0 = 0 \quad \text{and} \quad 0 \cdot a = 0

No matter how large or small a number may be, multiplying it by zero always yields zero. While the additive identity property tells us that adding 00 leaves a number unchanged, multiplying by 00 does not preserve the number — it collapses every value to zero. This property is essential for understanding why division by zero is undefined, and it also underpins the verification of division facts involving zero.
