Simplifying y5y6y^5 \cdot y^6 Using the Product Property

Simplify y5y6y^5 \cdot y^6.

Both factors share the same base yy, so the Product Property for Exponents applies. Add the exponents while keeping the base unchanged:

y5y6=y5+6=y11y^5 \cdot y^6 = y^{5+6} = y^{11}

The result is y11y^{11}. Rather than writing out all 11 factors of yy and multiplying, the Product Property condenses the calculation to a single addition of the exponents.
