- 10 week long lower level molecular biology course, data collection took place over 2 years
- Second year course taken mostly by sophomores
- 50% lecture time and 50% group work
- 3 cumulative midterms and 1 cumulative finals
- Students had to attend 3 lectures per week and had a reading and quiz to do before each
- They were provided with online lecture videos and slides as supplemental material
- Included 132 students (58.92% response rate) for year one, and 327 students (77.48% response rate) for year 2
