Example of a Fraction as Parts of a Whole

A fraction can be modeled visually using shapes. Consider a circle that represents one entire unit. If this circle is cut into 33 equal sections, those sections represent the denominator. Shading exactly 22 of those sections models the numerator. This image illustrates the fraction 23\frac{2}{3} by showing 22 shaded parts out of 33 total equal parts.
