Complex Fraction

A complex fraction is a fraction in which the numerator, the denominator, or both themselves contain fractions or fractional expressions. Because the main fraction bar indicates division, a complex fraction fundamentally represents a division problem. For example, \dfrac{ rac{3}{4}}{ rac{5}{8}} is a complex fraction. When an expression is involved—such as a sum, difference, or power in the numerator or denominator—the order of operations dictates that the expression must first be completely simplified before the overall final division is performed.
