Increasing Reading Comprehension and Engagement Through Concept-Oriented Reading Instruction- Study 2: Introduction
Study 2 was almost identical to Study 1, comparing CORI and SI variables on reading comprehension, reading strategies, and reading motivation. Additionally, Study 2 included a comparison group, Traditional Instruction (TI), in which no intervention was implemented. In Study 2, both the Gates-MacGinitie Reading Comprehension Test and a new measure of motivation based on teachers' ratings of student motivation were added. A standardized reading comprehension measure, the Gates-MacGinitie Reading Comprehension Test was given as a posttest to see if instructional effects extended to this variable. Researchers measured student motivation with teacher ratings, rather than the MRQ self-report measure.
