آن زبرجد رنگ مشکین بوی و طعمش طعم شهد
رنگ دیبا دارد او گویی و بوی عود خام

English translation

Asjadi - may God Almighty have mercy on him. He is from Merv and was among the panegyrists of Yamin al-Dawla, and in congratulation of his conquest of India he has a qasida whose opening couplet is this: When the wise, discerning king made the journey to Somnath, He made his own deeds a banner of miracles. And in describing the melon he says: That chrysolite-colored one, musk of scent and its taste the taste of honey, It has, you would say, the color of brocade and the fragrance of raw aloeswood. When you cut it, each slice of it becomes a new crescent moon, And if you do not cut it, in its own essence it is a full moon.
