Section 5

Original content

English translation

The Commander of the Faithful (Ali) said: I heard from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he declared: 'The worth of every person is what he does well.' That is: the worth of each person is according to that which adorns him of the beauties of his deeds and the marvels of his words.

The worth of a man is not from silver and gold; The worth of a man is according to his skill. How many a servant who, through acquiring skill, His worth becomes far greater than his master's. And how many a master who, through lack of skill, Lies trodden underfoot on the path of his own servant.
