زآن روز که از سروی خود ماندم فرد

شد معرکه دلاوری بر من سرد
دیرین مثلی هست که در روز نبرد

English translation

A bull was the leader over his herd, and among the bulls he was renowned for the strength of his horn. When a wolf attacked them, he would drive its harm away from them with the blow of his horn. Then the hand of misfortune struck him and broke his horn; a calamity befell his horn. After that, whenever he saw the wolf, he would creep into the shelter of the other bulls. They asked him the reason for this, and in answer he said: From the day I was left alone, without my horn, The field of valor grew cold for me. There is an ancient proverb that on the day of battle, The blow comes from the weapon, and the boast from the man.
