خواهی که شوی حلال روزی

همخانه مکن عیال بسیار
دانی که درین سراچه تنگ

حاصل نشود حلال بسیار

English translation

The pigeon was asked: How is it that you raise no more than two chicks, while the domestic hen has the capacity for far more than that? It replied: The pigeon's chick feeds from the crop of its mother and father, whereas the domestic hen's chick feeds from the dungheap along every pathway. From a single crop one can provide food for no more than two chicks, but from half a dungheap a thousand chicks can be reared in a single day.

If you wish to have lawful sustenance, do not bring many dependents into your household. Know that in this narrow little dwelling, an abundance of the lawful cannot be gained.
