Section 25

Original content

English translation

A wealthy man died during the reign of one of the tyrants. The vizier of that tyrant summoned the man's son and asked him: What has your father left behind? He said: Of wealth and property, such and such; and of heirs, the great vizier—may God, glorified be He, sustain him—and this lowly wretch. The vizier laughed and ordered that the inheritance be divided into two halves; he left one half to the son and took the other half for the king.

The tyranny-practicing vizier recognizes nothing but the king's right in the orphan's property. He deems it justice if he carries it off entirely, and deems it a favor if he splits it into two halves.
