Section 18

Original content

English translation

A woman from a group who had rebelled against Hajjaj was brought before him. Hajjaj was speaking with her, while she had lowered her head and fixed her gaze upon the ground, neither answering him nor looking at him. One of those present said to her: The Amir is speaking and you are turning away from him. She said: I am ashamed before God Almighty to look upon a man at whom God Almighty does not look! Do not look upon the face of the oppressor, for upon your face it is a door opened from Hell. Since it was opened toward him by God, no glance of mercy has fallen upon him.
