Section 31

Original content

English translation

A sick man was on the verge of death. A foul-breathed man, from whose mouth an unpleasant smell came, was sitting at his bedside; he kept bringing his head close to him, prompting him to recite the testimony of faith, and breathing over his face. However much the sick man turned his face away, the man grew more insistent and brought his head still closer.

When matters grew unbearable for the sick man, he said: O dear one! Will you let me die pleasantly and purely, or do you wish to defile my death with something fouler than anything else?!

In the world, people of virtue are hard to find; One cannot lend an ear to every meddler. Whoever's lips give off the scent of hypocrisy, His breath cannot be accepted.
